| Penicillin Allergy? And Anesthetic Allergy??? I recently had and abscessed tooth worked on, and before my dentist could do that he perscribed me Penicillin V 500mg four times a day. Within 12-24 hours of starting the Penicillin, my gums became incredibly inflamed (I figured it was from the tooth. I had let the abscess go on way too long thinking it was a sinus/allergy problem), within 24-36 hours I noticed some rashing and tightness in my chest, and upon reaching the 48 hour point the rash became itchy with little red spots on my hands and arms and shoulders.
I called my dentist, and he switched me to Clindamycin without any problem. I had the tooth root canal-ed on a monday and it took three hours (the tooth was bad). By Thursday I was back in his office with a lot of inflamation and pain. He told me that it was an allergic reaction to th and perscribed a topical steroid and more Vicodin. I want to know, is the penicillin reaction related to the reaction in the gums? Also how long does penecillin take to get out of the system
My dentist said it the additional gum inflamation after the root canal seemed to be a reaction from the anesthetic. Could it be related to the penecillin reaction. Also is there a way to verify that I am now currently allergic to penecillin? I had just been on Augmentin a week or two before and I was fine. One other dumb question how long does it take the penecillin to get out of the system? Between the tooth and the reactions Im on Vicodin or T3 and Benadryl all day long and Im tired of being stoned all the time. Thanks so much in advance! |
