Cat allergies with asthma?

My dad is really allergic to cats and has asthma. My mom loves cats so much and really wants to get one. If my dad is in a house with a cat he usually needs his inhaler within an hour. I am wondering if there is any medication or special cats that would help his cat allergies at all so they could get one.
