5. Grew up in Hawaii, where ethnicity is not such a big issue. I was considered majority.
6. Hawaii, originally. Family has been in this country (if you include the former Kingdom of Hawaii) for almost 150 years.
7. I moved to other states.
8. 2 brothers, or 3 if you count one that lived only about 2 weeks.

Have a job teaching Geology classes at a small university, while doing research on paleoecology, have two kids

To get my PhD within 4 more years

Raised by my mom, she was married twice, we were working class/poor, she worked hard and pushed us to do our best at all times and to be respectful, kind and have integrity, she was strict until we were old enough to make our own decisions, catholic until i was about 8, then exposed to longhouse religion, my family is sort of religious/spiritual or agnostic, i am an atheist.

7. do you live in the general area that you grew up in or have you moved from another state?
I now live in Seattle WA area

8. how many brothers or sisters do you have?
2 brothers by birth, two sisters by foster care

Long term:To raise well-adjusted children and retire healthy with enough money to travel.
Short term: to be a good father to my children and to move to the highest salary bracket for my job.
Background: Raised in New England in a middle class household. My parents were teachers and my parents spent a lot of monety on private schools. We certainly didn't live extravagently be we got by pretty well.

I'm from Massachusetts. I moved away for my education and I settled in Illinois.

I have one brother and one sister. I had another brother who died in childhood.

5. Grew up in a traditional family, no divorce or abuse issues. one younger sibling. Lived in the same (middle sized town) all my life, until going to college across the state.

7. I still consider myself a resident of Appleton, but I now live most of the year at college in Lacrosse, WI (about 3 hrs away)
