| Should I Enlist Into The Army Reserves...Or Just Continue On College? Hi, my name is Tony and I need some advice from current servicemembers and experienced veterans. I am currently 19 years old and I have prior service with the u.s. Navy for 15 months (national call of service). I am currently taking classes at my local community college. I have now finally decided and know what to do with my life...I am interested in the medical field (emt, paramedic, nursing etc.) I know that there is a MOS in the Army 68W which is a combat medic. Does going into the 68W AIT have any advantages when I transact to the civilian sector after 6 years of reserves? Many career counselours from the school have advised me to just stick with going to school so I can obtain my nursing degree, or emt license off their version of "on-the-hands training" but I really want to experience being in the Army due to the fact that I was always interested in combat related branch. I am highly aware about deployment and I will be ready for it. The counselours have also told me that the main credit that transacts from the military to the college is that I don't have to do p.e. for the college. Is this true? Tell you the truth, the main reason why I am interested in serving is due to the 68W MOS, the experience of being a combat medic and the benefits. I have one last question...when your unit is about to deploy...are you given a month ahead notice? or do they let you know ASAP? |
