The Army and Marines have both allowed a limited number of convicted felons to enlist. I believe it is on a case by case basis.

I've been an Army recruiter for a year. We have processed some waivers for possession of THC and OWI 1st offense but that is the worst that I have seen get approved. Domestic Violence is a deal breaker. No matter how bad the recruiting gets, we still have to maintain a well disciplined military.

We usually send our unqualified applicants to the Army National Gaurd because they have looser policies on waivers. You still might have a hard time with a domestic, hope that was your only offense and that it was a minor incident! Don't expect a security clearance either.

Check out Army Regulation AR 601-210 Chapter 4 Paragraph 6 under "Lautenburgh Amendment".

I saw on the news that the Army and Marines are allowing some felons to join. They must be getting very desparate for recruits thats all I can say.

NONE...

The Felons that were allowed to enlist
were only for minor offensses which
were done as Juveniles...

No violent offenses...

Hell McNamara enlist 100,000 MICA patients
into the Army during the Vietnam War...
Another touchy feely Liberal Social Experiment
that didn't work...
Their scores were 17...

The TRUTH So Help Me GOD...
Research it...

It would depend on the specific case. All services can grant waivers, but the incidents are investigated before a waiver is granted.

I read an article about some of these felony waivers today... they included some sex crimes (kids participating in consensual, but underage sex) and arson (a 13 year old who threw a match into his school locker).

If you're talking about a serious Domestic Violence conviction, I wouldn't count on getting any waiver at all.
