Navy Jobs questions!?

What do you think of these Navy jobs? (AZ, SK, YN, PN) Are they respectable jobs? Whats the schooling like for them?

They're administrative jobs, for the most part. Except storekeeper. That's supply. Expect to do work humping material from the entry point to the store rooms...mostly by hand.

The schools, unless they've changed things are in Meridian, Mississippi. I flunked out of them because I could not, for the life of me, touch type. I type fast enough, but I still look at my keys when I do.

As an AZ, you would be keeping records of aircraft data, such as engine hours, maintenance performed, maintenance scheduled, just about any information you could think of that would pertain to aircraft engines of all sorts (prop, rotor & jet).

An SK is a storekeeper. You are responsible for maintaining supplies and records that are necessary to keep a Navy unit going. Such as food for the crew, spare parts for all the machinery that exists on a ship, supplies for maintenance requirements, crew supplies such as toiletries and uniforms, if it is used on a ship, you've got to make sure it's where it needs to be when it needs to be there.

A YN is a yeoman. This is another word for records clerk. You would deal with all official correspondence regarding ships operations, officer personnel records, possibly enlisted personnal records as well, depending on the size of the unit and any official correspondence, filing of received documents from other commands and higher-ups, etc. You would perform all the duties of a secretary for mainly the commanding officer and executive officer.

A PN is a obsolete rating that used to deal specifically with personnel records, now they are called Personnel Specialists (PS). You would be responsible for all entries into the service records of the enlisted personnel stationed at your duty station. These would be performance evaluations, disciplinary actions (if any), promotions, training completed, schools attended, orders received, certificates earned, etc.

All of the jobs are basically paper-pushers. The training for each job would probably last between 9 months and a year, either at Great Lakes, Illinois, or Pensacola, Florida. After which you could be assigned to any duty station that needs your services, worldwide, ashore or afloat.
