Should I feel at least somewhat tarnished in joining the military at age 27?

For the first time, I'm considering joining the Air Force. I have a bachelor degree, but let's be honest - is joining when you are 18 or 19 more enjoyable and fullfilling versus joining at age 27?

Not at all! you join when it feels 'right' to you to join. At yoru age, you are more stable mentally than those at 18 or 19. Your judgment therefore will be better. Go for it!

Just be prepared to be called an old man a few times. But other than that you go right ahead. My thanks and salute to your future service.

Yes
If you count in that the air force would have paid for your school and you would have 8 to 9 years in and only 11 to 12 years till retirement.

Trust me, even though you are older, and probably less inclined to party like mad, you will be surprised at how much quicker you succeed than the younger counterparts. Especially with already having a degree. Most of the younger kids have questionable work ethics. My brother waited to enlist in the Navy till he was 30. He wound up making E-5 in less than 2 years through diligence and hard work. Good luck in whatever you do.
