| Texas Army National Guard mobilizations/deployments?
I am a junior in university and I am interested in joining the Texas Army National Guard. I want to join the unit that is located in Huntsville, TX, which is in the same city as my university. I don't mind deploying to Iraq or Afghanistan; however, I am concerned about being "called up" for the natural disasters. Is the National Guard mobilized for minor things or does it take a Hurricane Katrina type incident for the governor to consider mobilizing the National Guard? I am expecting to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan and I understand that risk and I accept it, but I don't want my education to be put on hold every couple of weeks because my unit is being mobilized to help get a cat out of a tree. So my main concern is... Is the National Guard only mobilized for emergencies? Yeah, but how often can I expect it? |
