why is it that single mothers can't join the military??? i was talkin to a recruiter i can't go full active but if i sign over rights to my son i can join it dont make sense!!! if i have a baby sitter and shit i dont see the problem ..... and yes i have heard of the family plan but they are tellin me that cuz im a single parent i can only go reserves unless i was to give someone custody

The way around this is to give custody to someone like your mom or someone else you trust. Once you are out of training you regain custody. Im not entirely sure why they do that to be honest. I guess just to make sure there isnt anyone just "leaving" their kid with someone who doesn't have any legal rights as far as medical and whatnot. Once you are in though, it isn't a problem to be a single mother. Can you speak with your recruiter about what happens after you get out of training? Best of luck!

I'm a military women and it's because you are they're only parent that is why you have to give up custody to someone, if you die there will be no fuss over it, you already gave your child to someone else, but it's not actually giving up your child, you can even move your child with you on base if the guardian you appointed comes too

If you're in the military, you're subject to being deployed at any time. Even in peacetime... how prepared would you be for a 2 a.m. surprise "alert" that would require you to sign in at your unit's HQ within 30 minutes?

Because the lifestyle of an Active Duty member does not consist of sitting behind a desk never leaving your residence. Military are constantly on the go and have to be prepared at all times to be told they have "x" amount of minutes to hours to be ready to leave to get on a plane for wherever it is they intend to send you. Having children in the way of that is not an option for them. And Uhlan, you are such a damn idiot. You think men can't be single parents, too? Leave the combat to men? Women have been serving their country longer than our country can document. You really think this country is what it is just because of men? Not only do you need more education; you also need a swift kick to the as$.
