just wondering has a spectacular aura about
If you join the military/navy/army...?

...will you be automatically deployed to future wars? Even if you leave before then?

When you enlist in any service, it is for a period of 8 (eight) years. You may serve 4 years active duty, but then you also have 4 years of reserve duty in at least the Inactive Reserve.

During that time of Inactive Reserve status, you can be recalled to Active Duty. That does not happen often, but it can. This would be for a job skill that has a very big shortage for a short length of time. For example, the Army recalled truck drivers a couple years ago for service in Afghanistan and Iraq.

But once you hit the 8th anniversary of when you first entered the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), you cannot be recalled to Active Duty.

When you join the service, you are automatically obligating yourself to 8 years of service. If you leave active duty before that time, you will become a part of the individual ready reserve and may be called back to active duty at any time until your original obligation time has been met.
