What can I expect from joining the U.S. Navy?

If I want to go to college for Nursing or Dentistry or a doctor or something, what can I expect?
What about Boot Camp?
And just beginning to serve?
What about 6 to 8+ years into it?

I don't know much about it, I'm going to ask and find out more by my guidance counselor and people who are actually in the Navy, but I thought I'd see what people have to say here.
