If I join the military....? I am currently working full time. I pay child support every two weeks for my son. I am considering joining the military but am wondering if i do, will i still be subject to pay the amount of child support that I was paying as a civilian or will they base it off of my new base pay which will be lower? Im unsure if they would readjust it since it was my choice to make the career change to a lower paying job. Does this apply to military as well....and no i dont want to join just to pay child support. Its been a dream of mine for a long time.

You will pay what the court order says until you get it readjusted by the courts. Your legal office will assist you as well has finance. DFAS will want your court ordered child support docs and it will come out of your check once per month. You will be probabaly pay this original amount while in basic, finance has a formula that states a max percent a soldier will pay. I pay 500 per month, I was paying 650.. Your BAH will help with the payment and in my opinion, this is not a lot of money so remember to help out with clothes, school and othe rmoney for activies.

it is a percentage of what you make. If they are still charging the same amount you have to petition the court to have it lowered. You should just be able to send you info from the military to the child support office in the state you are paying in, then call and make sure it is taken care of, find out who the case worker is for you child's mother. If you add your child to DEERS and cover her fully with medical benefits, you could get your child support to be even lower.
