| Edition: Mon, March 10, 2008 Rich-text Version SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING “Today's young men and women from our generation, the best of this generation too, are joined in a war in a far-off land that will shape their future and the world's future for decades to come. As with Frank Buckles' war, some day this war will end and all will come home with their lives and the world forever changed and the vivid and searing memories of their war will live with them throughout their days on this earth.” -Army Secretary Pete Geren, referring to Cpl. Frank Woodruff Buckles, now 107, the last surviving American World War I veteran. Army Salutes Last Doughboy TODAY'S FOCUS Army Campaign Plan 2008 PLANORD What is it? The Army Campaign Plan (ACP) is the operational expression of the Army’s strategy. It directs planning and execution of Army operations and transformation within the context of ongoing strategic commitments, and it integrates a broad range of transformation initiatives and institutional processes which accomplish the Army mission and achieve the Army Vision. It holds the Army accountable. The ACP is Section IV of The Army Plan (TAP). The ACP has been repeatedly updated since its initial release in April 2004 and has continued to evolve. It now provides directive guidance to Army Commands (ACOM), Army Service Component Commands (ASCC), Direct Reporting Units (DRU), HQDA, and supporting agencies and activities in support of Operating Force Transformation, Generating Force Transformation, and Sustaining the Health of the Force. What has the Army done? The Army Campaign Plan 2008 PLANORD was released to the field on Feb. 29, 2008. It fully integrates the Army’s Four Imperatives, revises ACP campaign and major objectives; and updates guidance to the field. The Army Campaign Plan 2008 PLANORD supersedes for planning the last major ACP Revision, ACP Change 5 (Apr. 5, 2007) and ACP Change 6 (June 28, 2007 - Logistics Transformation Plan). Approximately a third of all tasks to commands, activities, and HQDA staff are new or significantly revised from previous iterations. Why is this important to the Army? The Army Campaign Plan 2008 PLANORD provides updated guidance to the field, reflecting the priorities of the current Army leadership. Army Campaign and major objectives have been significantly revised. While the Army Campaign Plan has traditionally been focused on Army Transformation, ACP 2008 PLANORD recognizes the importance of Sustaining the Army’s Soldiers, Families, and Civilians and supports those efforts with new taskings and provides guidance to develop management processes to improve synchronization of Army efforts in this area.
