Should I join the military?

I have an extensive knowledge about military history, I like guns in general and shooting them, and I want to serve this country. I am not certain if I want to have RPGs fired at me for a living, but neither do most people.

I am interested in the Marines, but they are the first ones to be shipped off into combat and most of the people who have died in Iraq were Marines. I don't want to die at a young age.

Don't join any military branch simply because you like guns and shooting them. You need to want discipline, courage, direction ect. It is honorable that you wish to serve your country and there is a chance that you will die young. You need to ask yourself if your willing to donate your life to your country. If not there are other honorable ways to serve your country: nurse, police, firefighter, social worker, aid to homeless, child abuse and domestic violence advocate ect.

You don't serve your country by being the poor SOB that dies for it you serve it by making the other poor SOB die for his country! -Gen Patton
