I'm going to join the military, but I want to increase the amount of push...

...ups I can do, How do I do this? I read at bodybuilding sites that muscles shouldn't be worked more than every two days for one hour, but I also read that recruits train the same muscles everyday for hours?

So which one is right? How long should I do push ups and how often?

right now I can only do about 17 with out stopping, I want to at least double that before joining.
