| I want to become an infantry officer. Should I join Marine ROTC or Army ROTC?
I'm currently a high school junior applying for Marine and army rotc. My question is twofold: first, what branch would give me a better chance to become an infantry officer? Second, if I did army rotc, and got branched infantry, what would I need to do to serve in an airborne unit (particularly the 173rd airborne; i would love to go to italy, but if I got the chance to serve in the 82nd that would be fine as well). I take it that most Marine units are light/medium infantry, so I don't have a preference on which unit I would like to serve in. Is this true that most marine units are similar in mission? (besides recon, which you need to be an O-3 to qualify for) I'm currently initiating a pt program. For the pt test, are the pushups and situps out of a time limit or a max out? I can currently max out 40 pushups, 8 pullups, and 60 situps within two minutes in each exercise. I know that I'm pretty weak right now, but still have a solid year and a half before college |
