We just have to understand that our sensory perceptions of "solid" happen to match up with objects that are mostly empty space. We understand the properties of a solid that equate to the common-sense definition.

The only reason the table is solid is because you perceive it as solid. We can't reconcile this because we are the same way. Humans are made up of atoms as well, and as you alluded to, atoms are mostly empty space, but don't discount the nuclear force. Everything contains that as well.

Because the top of the table and the legs are solid, however, it takes up a lot of space because of all the open air beneath it. All you gotta due is store stuff under it and you use the space and the table is still solid.

It's just a fact of science. A solid is a bunch of molecules vibrating but not really moving around too much. Molecules are in turn composed of atoms, which are composed of sub-atomic particles like protons, neutrons, and electrons.

You got a lot of common sense answers so i can't add anything to any of them except my own version of the answer.

Since birth man and every other living creature on earth perceives the world around us interacting with our physical bodies through our senses. That is the real world that we all exist in daily.

However there are deeper levels of physical interactions that man does not operate in where man does not. In the subatomic world of matter and energy our physical bodies our physical universe cannot be seen at all. And is exactly as you said mainly empty space.

Then there is a much larger view the universe where only planets and stars can be seen. And a larger view where only galaxies can be seen. Those are other areas where there is much empty space.

This is how I reconcile to the two conditions you stated. Later.
