O.k. lets clear a few of things up for you. Firstly, just because something is a UFO, it does not mean it is of alien origin. It just means it is 'Unidentified' to the observer.
Secondly and more importantly, do you have any idea of how far the next nearest star from us is?
Let alone a star that:
1 has a an extra solar planet or
2 has an extra solar planet 'capable' of sustaining life.
I suggest you find out the actual vast distances of space and the probability of intelligent life capable of interstellar travel before you start jumping to any conclusions about alien contact. Bear in mind one other important fact - nothing of mass can travel at light speed. Anything short of traveling at light speed renders interstellar travel too cumbersome to overcome the time it would take to traverse such distances.
Third – your information comes from the History channel. Hmm, television networks operate for one thing and one thing only – to make money. Whatever means of sensationalism they wish to use to boost ratings and increase profits, they will use.
This is the same for most newspapers and magazines too btw. Media in general are just sensationalists that rely little on facts: Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story!!
I really do believe you about the red light you observed. I too have some very odd things in the night sky. However, I know now that likelihood of such lights being of alien craft is extremely very slim indeed!
EDIT: just one more thing. If there was any real solid actual proof of any real alien sighting or contact, we would all know about it in very big way. It would be the biggest event in humankind - ever!
