Microsoft Word troubles.. regarding spacing/font... HELP!!!?

I copy pasted a couple things into Microsoft Word & now I can't get them all to the same font & size. I know it sounds weird but it's happened to me before.

I highlight all of the text, and change the font & size, but it doesn't all change at the same rate... like lets say: one paragraph is big text, the other is little text, when I change it all to "12 point" they both get smaller in ratio.. so the big text goes to medium, and the little text goes to tiny!

what the hell?? how do I fix this? thanks in advance!!
