blackholes in space?

i love astronomy and always ask my family about it. And today in school my teacher told me blackholes exist in space, but my parents always told me blackholes are dark, musty, slimy areas that are on exotic women? who is right?

However, in terms of astronomy, and the non-slang definition of black holes, your teacher is right.
