Isn't it amazing, the size of the universe!?

I'm 14 and in science, we are learing about astronomy. We watch a video almost everyday. They showed pictures of far, far away galaxies taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. It was so cool! And it makes me feel better too, you know? It's like if I get a big fat zit in the middle of my forehead (lol), it isn't the end of the world! you know!?? I know this is wierd but the size of the universe amazes me. Light travels SO fast, and yet it take 8 mintues for the sun's light to reach us, because we're so far away. And 92 million miles is nothing in comparison to the other galaxies and things we see in space. If someone were to see a star explode (I forget what that's called), it probably happened billions of years ago, but the light had just then reached us.anyways, thanks for reading...

Absolutely amazing. It's mind-boggling. I don't think we can even imagine how big the universe is.The furthest thing we have observed is a galaxy which is 800,000 light years away, as far as I know! So we're seeing what this galaxy looked like 800,000 years ago!If anyone ever asks you if you can see the past, say yes. Just look at the night sky. The sad thing is that we'll never get to explore any of this - even if we were to travel at the speed of light (which is impossible). What kind of human can live 800,000 years!?The biggest question, of course, is whether the Earth the only planet with life on it.

The question of infinity, and fractional divisions there-of, is simply mind blowing.

I am so happy you feel this way. Maybe it will inspire you to greater heights. I am twice your age, but I still feel that sense of wonder. I hold a college degree in Astronomy, although I now work in a different field, but still I can't get enough knowledge, fast enough. Good luck in whatever you do, and keep on looking at the awesome universe out there! By the way, that exploding star is called a nova, or if it's big enough, a super-nova.
