Suppose we knew the Earth was doomed because a giant comet would soon engulf it. Could we escape into space?

Let's say that there was a giant comet or object that would soon totally obliterate the Earth. Whatever the object or force is, it will hit us in 4 years and there will be nothing left of the planet.

Do you think we could build spaceships so that at least a few of us could escape into space and survive?

How do you think something like this would play out?.
I know that all humans could not escape. That would be ridiculous and impossible.

But if there was a consensus in the scientific community that the planet was indeed doomed, then there would surely be some attempts both at trying to halt the object, but also at fleeing the Earth since halting the object would be seen as impossible.

I think that some humans could flee the Earth for a while, but they would ultimately die in space as they would lack the O2 and other resources to survive.

It would just be interesting to see what people would attepmt.
