| If you were to take a compass out into space?
where would the needle point?

A compass needle aligns itself with a magnetic field. If it were deep enough space, the needle would just just kinda float, as there are no magnetic fields in deep space. If you jostle the compass, the needle will move a bit, but it's direction would be completely random and meaningless.
