carbon hydrogen and oxygen I wouldn't say they produced it. The plant itself produces these carbohydrates and through the sap transfers them to the seeds. Carbohydrates are used in monosaccharide form for respiration. Carbohydrases break the starchier poly- and disaccharides down to things like glucose and fructose. CO[sub] 2[/sub] a by product of respiration is this and so as it goes through the food chain more respiration occurs and more CO2 is released. |
