Soda lime absorbs carbon dioxide in exhaled air.

The spirometer through a sensor measures the volume of air exhaled or inhaled over time and it prints it in graph form. In this way the air capacity of the lungs can be accurately measured which is useful in determining the degree of damage caused by disease or injury.
