| Do plants and trees and other crap like that evolve? Yes they do. Simple plants like mosses and liverworts evolved first. They have no vascular tissue (xylem and phloem) so they don't grow to big. Eventually they evolved into ferns that have simple vascular tissue like a 1 lane road that carries nutrients up from the rhizomes and sugars down from the fronds. Complex plants like gymnosperms (conifers) and angiosperms (flowering plants) have 2 types of vascular tissue and have fruit (to aid seed dispersion) and seeds (to protect their embryos) so they have conquered the earth plant wise. Flowering plants were the latest type of plants to evolve and they first came about during the cretaceous era, and are believed to have contributed to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Many flowering plants produce poisons to discourage herbivores. |
