taking notes from my textbook - biology...?

i'm strugging in biology right now. i'm a jr. and i'm taking IB, biology being one of my higher level classes, i want to do better. so, to study, i'm going through all the chapters we've gone through so far in the year and i want to take notes. but taking notes in biology is a lot more hard (and boring) compared to buisness. are there any good ways of taking notes from a biology text book?
the text book is the schools book so i can't highlight it
