This is a Biology question.........Thanks a bunch!?

Which of the following is NOT a function of the semilunar and atrioventricular valves of the human
heart? Select ALL that apply.

a. to stop blood from flowing back to the lungs
b. to limit the amount of blood entering the ventricles from the atria
c. to prevent backflow of blood
d. to prevent mixing of blood
e. to increase surface area for greater blood flow
you could choose more then one option

I would say E.
The valves don't function in increasing surface area or blood flow.
They regulate and control blood flow by all of the other ones.
Pretty sure that A-D are all functions of the various valves, but not E.

E. The main function of the valves in the heart is to prevent backflow of blood, and to make sure it flows in one direction. Answer choice E doesn't sound right.

The semilunar block blood out of the ventricles, so a) is out. The Atrioventriclar are between the ventricles and atria, so b) is out. They all prevent backflow so there goes c). They don't really prevent mixing of blood, that's what the septum between the Atria and Venticle (Left and Right) chambers is for (and what birds and reptiles don't have)... but they do prevent it from mixing between Atria and Ventricles (Left OR Right)... it's a vague one, but I'd say d) is in. None of them have anything to do with surface area.... so e) is in....

d) and e)
