A children's book title question...?

When I was a child (I'm 32 now), there was a book/story I read or saw about a boy who didn't care about anything. There was a part in the story where he is talking to a lion, and the lion says "I can eat you, can't you see?", and the boy says "I don't care" The lion "then you will be inside of me", the boy "I don't care", "then you'll never have to bother" "I don't care" "with a mother or a father" "I don't care". Then the boy gets eaten, his dad cuts him out, and the boy starts to care again.
Any clue as to the title of this story. I don't remember if it is a book or a cartoon...or both.

It was Pierre by Maurice Sendak (book)...later they made them into musical cartoons.
