Can anyone help me figure out this old Childrens book?

I cant remember much. There was a mother who left her children at home and told them not to answer the door. A witch came and tempted them with some sort of pie, or hunny. When the mom got home she found the kids gone and went to the witches home. When she got there she had to prove that she wanted them or something to that effect. So she pretended to cut off her legs and her arms in order to fool the witch. Grrr this isnt the best description. i know it had alot to do with some sort of desert and it was golden like. Somebody hellllp lol.
deffinately not hanzel and grettal, the story isnt that old. If it helps im 22 and i remember reading it when i was little.
