I'm looking to trim my comic book collection. Are there any charities that...

...will take old comics? My apartment is running out of space, and those longboxes full of comics will need to go sometime. I'd rather give them away then throw them out, so I'm looking for a charity that will take them.

I'd prefer that some kids get the chance to enjoy them as much as I did. I don't think any of them are worth anything, so selling them is probably out.

I live in Austin, TX if that makes a difference.

I think libraries might take them, i know my library doesnt mind....but maybe you should have a yard sale, or give them to one of them antique comic stores

My first thought would be to donate them to a silent auction for a charity. My second would be to sell them on ebay, not one at a time, but either by boxful or maybe 25 comics with a 'good' one featured to get a better price, and then donate the monies to charity.

the pediatric ward of a hospital comes to mind.

Most public libraries should accept them, the pediatric ward idea is another good choice. Your nearest public school 'bookmobile' might be willing to take them, or put out a ton of flyers for other people with old comic books they're trying to get rid of and attempt a world record for number of comic books gathered (you'll get TV exposure and awareness to the cause you want to support) and in the end if no place takes the mass of comics, you can send it to the recycling plant.
