Cleveland, Ohio Natives Please! Record/Book shopping, Parking in Cleveland!?

I'm going to a show at the Grog Shop in March. I want to see the city a bit beforehand, and I wanted to know if parking around east 9th/euclid ave is a good idea for that. I would like to see the water a bit, record shop, bookstores, etc. I don't know Cleveland at all, so any advice/tips from locals would be great. I figured I would then drive out to where the Grog shop is and try to find someplace else to park around there. The website just lists street parking- can anyone tell me more about that? The Museum of Contemporary Art is supposed to be nearby as well? I'm a plan-ahead type, and I've spent hours looking at maps of Cleveland and lists of Parking Garages and Attractions, but I'm not getting the information I really want. I'm afraid I'll drive up there and be totally lost and bewildered. What are the bad areas? I just need a local's advice. Thanks!
