Interesting! I was just discussing this with my Grandmother the other day. She said Mormon was a man who compiled the book. Just like the Bible was compiled

Mormon was one person in the Book of Mormon. The book is called the Book of Mormon because Mormon compiled all the books together about 500 A.D. The rest of what you asked is correct.
