I'm thinking of a book...Points for best answer!?

I read a book a long time ago but I don't recall the title. It is about girls who go to a boarding school. There is a German teacher who the students don't trust so they play mean tricks on her. I remember that there was also some room in the school where there was a rumor that a girl died or something. Also, there was romance in the book. I think that it took place during a war because the students didn't trust the german teacher. Please help and I will be eternally grateful!!!
