Does anyone recognize these books/author?

Recently I was browsing a bookstore in another state and stumbled across a few books by one author that sounded interesting. I wanted to look at them more in-depth and so thought I would remember the author's name, but have forgotten.

I know the books are all based around history with fiction tied in, but unlike a regular historical fiction--the books covers a vast number of years. One of them I looked at started with the Native Americans and then ended around the eighteen hundreds, I think. All of the stories had some connection to the Indians and most of them may have been about the settlers, too.
I looked at another of his books that was about the history of Judaism and the first chapter had several drawings.

If anyone has ANY idea of what these books are called or who the author is, it is very much appreciated!

It could be some of the Jean Auel books. Or it could be a series I can't remember the name of but it had the word Earth in it. They started in the Arctic with the Eskimos and moved southward as the books progressed. I'll look around my library and see if I can find one of them. But if you like books about Native Americans, try Hanta Yo. It's all about a tribe of Lakota Sioux over about a 50 year time span.

Could your author have been James Michener?

James Albert Michener (February 3, 1907 - October 16, 1997) was an American author of more than 40 titles, the majority of which are novels of sweeping sagas, covering the lives of many generations in a particular geographic locale and incorporating historical facts into the story as well. Michener was known for the meticulous research behind his work. Because his books tend to be fairly long, it is sometimes said that "Michener tends to write by the pound."
