Does anyone know of any books that have a plot similar to the tv show "New

Amsterdam"? I like historical fiction and I'm kind of looking for something like where this person has somehow lived for hundreds of years and uses what he has learned in the past taking part in historical events that really happened to help him with the present, with flashbacks in the book showing where and when in the past he learned what he is using now.
