I need help remembering the name and author of this book..?

Ok when i was in middle school I read this book about this kid who i think stows away on a ship of pirates or they take him, and he can see ghosts. The crew eventually mutinizes the captain and as they leave the only person who sees him is the kid who see's ghosts and the captain thinks he's a ghost. If you could help thanks..

it sounds allmost like castaways of the flying duchman...could that be it? if not, read it anyway, it rocks
