I'm looking for a book about the history of the American home...?

I found it in the library last year, and read it, and it was amazing. I think it is a relatively new publication (published in late 2005 to early 2007) but I may be wrong. Each chapter is about a different room in the home and its evolution in America over the last few hundred years. One of the main topics I remember is about how the kitchen (its size and proximity to other areas of the home) evolved as gender roles evolved. There are no pictures, it is a chapter book and a fairly easy read.
Does anyone know the title and/or author? I've looked all over Amazon and can't find it.
