can you tell if someone you just met is lying about having cancer?

two weeks ago i met someone and began dating them. we really like each other and have hit it off as far as compatability. on our second date he told me "i HAD a bout with cancer". i asked him what type and he said basal cell carcinoma, which is one of the less severe forms of skin cancer and is very treatable if caught early. later in the week he sent me a text message saying he "had radiation" today..confusing if it WAS a bout with cancer right? then the type of cancer changed to a mass in the abdomen which is a very different type of cancer than the first. the very next day after the radiation treatment he spent the entire day moving! he has been very vague about this whole thing and not too forthcoming with answers to my questions; i am not trying to be nosy but something does not seem right about this. i'm sure it would be difficult to tell someone you just starting dating that you have cancer and perhaps he is just nervous about how to talk about it but..do you think he's lying?
