| Honey, you're very good to ask this. Kids always worry and the adults forget that the kids really DO need to be kept informed. You can use the website(s) suggested by other responders here and that will help you... BUT... you should ALSO feel free to call your dad's doctor and tell him/her of your concern and ask for answers to your concerns. Ask the doctor to tell you all he can about your dad's prognosis. AND Ask the doctor to provide you with literature that you can read and learn from. And give you names/addresses/phone numbers for cancer support groups or people. It's a lot less scarry when you know in reality what your dad's risk level is. All the thoughts that run through your head when you do not know enough are usually much worse than reality. It'll be easier to be calm and supportive and helpful to your dad if you know what he's got, what problems it might cause, what his treatment might be, and how long you may have him around. If they caught it early, my recollection is that this kind of cancer can be kept at bay for a long time. Be glad he didn't have Pancreatic Cancer, as it has a bad prognosis... one of the worst... as it's generally hidden and not caught early. I hope you get the answers you need from the sources I suggested. You can also do a google search for bowel cancer, and see what you find on your own, but I think it would help to talk to the doctor and to a cancer support person. The personal interaction, and having someone you can call on the phone is very valuable to helping you deal with this difficult time more calmly. |

| Survival is determined by grade (aggressiveness) & stage of cancer (location in body - local site or metastatic) We can't really give you numbers without knowing the above. If the docs caught it early, he has a better chance. Stay calm. He will need you to be there for him, and it would be so therapeutic for him if he got peace of mind that you were strong enough to get through this with him. |
