If there was a certain number of cigarettes it took to get cancer, most people would stop smoking before that and lung cancer would be done away with. The tar and damaging chemicals in cigarettes work differently in every body. It is a matter of how long you smoke, your health, your family history, your choice of cigarettes, and even the way you smoke (how long you hold the smoke in your lungs, etc.). There is no way to determine which cigarette is the one that kills you. Some people get lung cancer without even having smoked!

well, I am 20.

I have been smoking about a pack a day since I was 15.

I figure I have smoked about 16,500 cigarettes

I just found out I have a tumor where my sinuses meet the throat

cant get a biopsy for another 3 weeks... but I'm pretty sure there is a good chance it's cancer


so... really.... not that many cigarettes.... when you consider most people smoke a lot longer before they have any problems


its better not to start at all... cigarettes don't relieve stress.... they only cause you MORE stress.... even if it is just the stress of wanting a cigarette

there is no certain answer. it could be one or 10 million. also have known people who don't smoke to have cancer.

There is no answer to this. Everyone's body reacts to the tar and nicotine differently and what may be a short time before cancer forms for one person may take years and years for another. Just stop smoking and you won't have to worry about this question.

Well, I recently learned in Life science class, that it varies with different people. Since people are different from each other genetically, it is different with people. For example, someone could have smoked for only a couple months before they developed lung cancer, whereas someone could have smoked all his life and died without developing lung cancer. Something like that.

as per medical book , 20 cigarettes per day for 20 years without break.

this is the duration mentioned, but duration varies and also you can't predict with certainty which of the smokers will suffer from cancer of the lung

duration may be short also

also filter cigrettes are supposed to be less carcinogenic than non-filter ones

that is for statics , cigarette smoking is not good for health because besides carcinogenic possibility , it predisposes to bronchial infection, chronic bronchitis, may lead to emphysema and ultimately heart may be affected .
