Are Parents alot more worried about skin cancer and their children than 10 years ago?

While I was in Mexico 2 weeks ago, I remember while I was at the beach a large majority of the time and was always seeing mothers constantly slathering and covering their kids in sunscreen right at their towels and hearing the kids complaining saying they can do it themselves etc. Kids as in ages 8-15 years old.

Would you say that mothers are usualy more worried about skin cancer than they were 10 years ago? I have a 12 year old son myself, who is fair skin and blonde. I still covered him at mexico every 2 hours, but he didnt complain (much)
