Chance has a spectacular aura about
Omental (sp?) and stomach cancer? Truth please?

My grandfather was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year. The doctor gave him a 25% survival rate. He underwent surgery and radiation/chemo. It appeared the cancer had been cured.
He had a catscan in December determining he was still cancer free. Then in late January he began having abdominal pains and had trouble keeping food down. After numerous tests, the doctors have determined that the cancer has spead to the omental. They said his disease was uncurable. He cannot have another surgery but they plan to give him more radiation treatment. Now we can't seem to get a straight answer about how critical my grandfather's situation is.
Currently he consumes less than 1000 calories/day and is in significant pain. My feeling is that he won't last a year and may be dead in weeks or monthes. My grandma is in denial.
Anyone have any experience with this? Are we talking weeks, monthes or years? Is there a chance he could get better? I just want the straight truth. Thanks.

I think you are referring to the "omentum"...this is the protective "fatty looking" flap of tissue that covers the abdominal organs. Is this the only site of the metastisis (spreading of original cancer)? If so, why can't the doctors just perform an "omentectomy"? Removing the omentum.... Perhaps there is more to the diagnosis than you are explaining here, or more than you are completely aware of.
It NEVER hurts to gather any/all tests that have been done and seek a second/third opinion. Especially since they've given you such a negative outcome for your grandfather. You have nothing to lose in furthuring your research/questions with other doctors and/or professionals. Good luck.
