Are there any other diseases besides cancer that cause hair loss?

I was just kind of wondering, I know that its the Chemo therapy that causes the hair loss and not the actual surgery but I was just wondering whether that ever happens with other types of illnesses too???

Alopecia causes hair loss but this is usually something that you would have had and known about for many years. It is not the cancer that causes hairloss at all. It is the treatments that are used for cancer. Some chemotherapies cause hairloss but MANY do not. Stress causes hairloss as well. Also eating poorly or anorexia causes hairloss. There is also a chronic anxiety disorder that causes people to pull their own hair out it can sometimes happen in their sleep but usually this is while you are conscious. There is also a genetic disposition to hairloss in women it is usually due to a high level of testoterone. Female hairloss and baldness is a possibility as well. I would go to a doctor if you are concerned it could be serious.

I heard if someone is involved in a very trajic situation it can cause hair loss. I knew a girl that her father was killed my a crash and she lost all her hair. It kinda grew back but was very patchy. Very sad story
