...employment/service to an ex felon? I spent seven years incarcerated (armed robbery)! Since my poor choices I have received a B.S. Degree, owned my own business, married with two children, pay taxes, and voted. yet I am denied an opportunity to serve my country via military, denied career opportunities (I was told that I was more qualified than my competition) and advancement because of my background, taken advantage of, and stripped of my right to bear arms. I understand that one must PROVE themselves once they are released, but come on! I paid my debt to society many years ago, and yet, I am punished time and time again. why again is the recidivism rate around 95%?
If we, as American citizens (regardless of race, color, creed, and/or background), are granted unalienable fundamental rights by the Constitution of the United States of America then they cannot be stripped (no ifs, ands, or buts)! However, if our rights have somehow evolved into privileges, then how I ask you, can these fundamental rights protect any American citizen? What will be the next justification for our “privileges” to be stripped from the American citizen?
