| Changing Careers....need help.?
My husband has been working for the same company for about 7 years now. It's a small company that installs pro sound and lighting equipment--about 4-5 employees and he's been making the same salary for a few years now. There's no opportunity to 'move up' or do anything to take on more responsibility or raise his salary, beyond if the boss decides that the company is doing well enough to award everyone a raise. (Unlikely). The problem is, everything else is going up!! Gas prices, food prices, everything prices! We also now have almost 3 (due May) more children then when he started at this job. Something needs to change.
My husband has a BA in Communications, likes his field (would rather be in engineering/recording, actually) but let's face it, install tech jobs are for young single bachelors! I'm trying to encourage him to start looking around for something else, but he just don't know where to start.
I'm thinking maybe some kind of career counselor could help here.
I did a quick search and didn't turn up quite what I was thinking. Are there people who do this? I'm thinking of someone who can help him assess what his interest, skills and education would best suit him for--preferably in a career that has room for growth---our kids aren't going to get any cheaper!! We are in Ontario, Canada and could go to Toronto. I know there's various aptitude tests out there, but I think he needs a real live person, who could then also help him go out and find the job.
