| Why do half-lives work (in chemistry)? You know, the speed at which something decays. On half-life is however long it takes for something to decay to half it's amount. Then, if you leave it for the same amount of time (1 half-life) it is supposed to decay in half again. And if you leave it for another half-live it decays in half again. So, after one half-life there would be 50% left, and after 2 there would be 25% left. Why does the process slow down when there is less stuff to decay? I think I kind of understand, but could someone please clear it up for me? THanx! |
