| Chemistry Questions.... (moles)?
Does a mole of an element weigh x grams or amu's? Like would a mole of iron weigh 55.8g or 55.8u? Which has a greater mass... a molecule of CH4 or a mole of CH4? And if you could explain why, that would be great... A mole of an element weighs its atomic mass but in..... _______? Another name for molar mass? moles multiplied by molar mass gives... _________? what is molar mass? does grams divided by molar mass give gram formula mass? or what does it give? Any you could help me answer would be great... Thanks so much. |

1) 1 mole of an helium is 4.0g of helium. so it is grams 2) one mole weighs more.... which is greater the weight of one ant or of 602200000000000000000000 ants? Remember that a mole is just a number. 3) grams, as explained in #1 4) you can say molecular mass 5) mass, in grams 6) molar mass is the mass of one mole of an element (g/mol) 7) I don;t think it gives any useful information... Hope this helps! |

A mole weighs x grams, not AMU's. 1 mole of iron weighs approximately (it's not exact) 55.8 g. The mole will weigh more than the molecule, because to get the weigh of the molecule, in case of iron, again, you'd multiply 55.8 by 1.66x10^-27 kg=1.66x10^-24 g The result will be a much smaller number than the 55.8 g to which a mole corresponds. the third question- grams. Another name is relative molar mass. Don't think it's the same as molecular mass- big mistake. moles X molar mass= mass (weight) of sample of substance e.g: 2 moles of iron mass= 2 moles x 55.8 g/mol mass= 111.6 g this means that 2 moles of iron weigh 111.6 g grams divided by molar mass give the number of moles. Some scientists consider formula mass and molar mass to be the same thing, but this is something you should check with your teacher. Hope I was helpful. Feel free to ask any questions, maybe I can help |
