| Chemistry: Grade 12- Concentration and Dilution Question?
The question is this: Write a set of directions for the preparation of 100mL of 1.0 M HCl from a stock solution of 18M HCl. I assume it has to do with dilution but im not really sure, if you could write the directions for me along with the mathematical part that would be great.

M1,V1 = M2, V2 (M is mol and V is volume) M1 = 1.0 M HCL V1 = 100 mL = .001 L M2 = 18 M HCL V2 = 1. Change milliliter to liter 2. Set M1 and V1 up like fractions. Do the same for M2 and V2 3. Cross multiply V1 and M2. (.001 * 18) 4. Divide this by M1 (1.0) 5. The answer is .018 6. Change back to milliliters and the answer is 18 mL |
