SmittyRules has a spectacular aura about
Chemistry: Grade 12- Concentration and Dilution Question?

The question is this: Write a set of directions for the preparation of 100mL of 1.0 M HCl from a stock solution of 18M HCl. I assume it has to do with dilution but im not really sure, if you could write the directions for me along with the mathematical part that would be great.

Talaupa has a spectacular aura about
M1,V1 = M2, V2 (M is mol and V is volume)

M1 = 1.0 M HCL
V1 = 100 mL = .001 L
M2 = 18 M HCL
V2 =

1. Change milliliter to liter

2. Set M1 and V1 up like fractions. Do the same for M2 and V2

3. Cross multiply V1 and M2. (.001 * 18)

4. Divide this by M1 (1.0)

5. The answer is .018

6. Change back to milliliters and the answer is 18 mL
