Coast Guard Reserve?

I am strongly considering joining the CUSCG Reserves. I am looking to gain some real life information though on what a typical reservist job includes. Basically, if you really jump in and do real work one weekend a month and two weeks a year – or if you are a “second rate” officer and just doing menial tasks.

Also, I’m looking for any experiences anyone has had regarding the Selected Reserve Direct Commission (SRDC) Program and how difficult it is to join as SRDC.
